Phase Two — Community Reentry · Module 12 of 24 · 90 minutes

Preparing for the interview and the first ninety days on the job.

What you will be able to do

  • Practice answering common interview questions with confidence.
  • Understand basic workplace expectations — attendance, communication, professionalism.
  • Identify how to handle a workplace conflict or mistake without it becoming a crisis.

Why this matters

Getting the job is only step one. Keeping it depends on habits most workplaces assume you already know — showing up on time, communicating problems early, and taking feedback without shutting down.

Reality check: Some of the unwritten rules of a workplace will feel unfamiliar or even unfair at first. Learning them doesn’t mean agreeing with all of them — it means giving yourself the best shot at staying employed while you build options.

Activity

Mock Interview — practice with a facilitator or peer, then debrief what felt strong and what needs work.

Scenario

A new hire is running late on day three with no way to reach their supervisor. The absence, not the lateness itself, is what costs them the job — silence reads as unreliability.

What would you do first?

Reflection

  1. What’s one workplace habit you want to build starting your first week?
  2. What would make you shut down or walk out if a supervisor corrected you? What’s a better response?

My action plan (pick at least one)

  • Complete at least one mock interview.
  • Write down three workplace expectations you’ll commit to (attendance, communication, professionalism).
  • Identify your plan for communicating if you’re going to be late or absent.

Resources

  • CareerOneStop — Interview Preparation Guide
