Phase Two — Community Reentry · Module 14 of 24 · 90 minutes
Rebuilding trust with family while learning what a healthy relationship looks like.
What you will be able to do
- Identify which relationships you want to rebuild and what that rebuilding realistically looks like.
- Understand that trust is rebuilt through consistency, not explanation.
- Practice healthy communication and boundary-setting.
Why this matters
Family relationships are often the strongest source of support in reentry — and the most complicated. Learning to rebuild trust deliberately, instead of expecting it to return automatically, changes the outcome.
Reality check: Family members who were hurt or disappointed before don’t owe instant trust just because you’re out and trying. Trust is rebuilt the same way it’s broken — one action at a time, over time.
Activity
Relationship Map — identify each key relationship as Rebuild, Maintain, or Boundary, and write one concrete next step for each.
Scenario
A resident calls home expecting things to pick up where they left off. Instead, they’re met with caution and short answers. That caution isn’t rejection — it’s a family protecting itself until trust is rebuilt.
What would you do first?
Reflection
- What’s one small, consistent action you can take this month to rebuild trust with someone?
- What would a healthy relationship with that person actually look like, specifically?
My action plan (pick at least one)
- Identify one relationship to focus on rebuilding this month.
- Take one small, consistent action toward it (a call, a visit, showing up reliably).
- Set one clear boundary with a relationship that isn’t safe or supportive right now, if applicable.

- ☐ I’ve identified which relationships I’m rebuilding, maintaining, or setting boundaries with.
