Phase Three — Renewed Ambition 101 · Module 21 of 24 · 90 minutes

Becoming a contributing member of your community, not just a resident in it.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify community organizations, groups, or causes aligned with your interests.
  • Understand the role of civic participation in long-term stability and belonging.
  • Take one concrete step toward community involvement.

Why this matters

Isolation is one of the strongest risk factors for setbacks in reentry. Genuine community connection — beyond the house, beyond the program — builds the belonging that makes long-term success sustainable.

Reality check: Community engagement doesn’t have to mean something big or public. It can be as simple as showing up consistently to one group, one place of worship, one volunteer shift. Consistency in a small commitment beats a big one-time gesture.

Activity

Community Connection Plan — identify one organization, group, or civic activity to engage with in the next 30 days.

Scenario

A resident who once felt like an outsider in every room starts volunteering weekly at a local organization. Six months later, that consistency has turned into references, relationships, and a sense of belonging that changes how they see their own future.

What would you do first?

Reflection

  1. What’s one community connection you want to build?
  2. What’s held you back from community involvement in the past?

My action plan (pick at least one)

  • Identify one community organization or activity to engage with.
  • Confirm your voting rights status if applicable.
  • Attend or participate in one community activity within 30 days.

Resources

  • Restoration of voting rights resource guide (state-specific)
  • Local volunteer matching organizations
  • Compounding Framework — Community Lens

Completion checklist

  • ☐ I’ve identified a community organization or activity aligned with my interests.
  • ☐ I know my voting rights status.
  • ☐ I’ve taken one concrete step toward community involvement.

Milestone: One concrete community engagement activity has been completed.
