Renewed Ambition’s AI Basics · Lesson 2 of 7
Goal: Set up and safely use ChatGPT and Claude, the two best tools to learn first.
ChatGPT (made by OpenAI) and Claude (made by Anthropic) are AI chat assistants. You type (or speak) a question or request, and they answer in plain language. They are the best place to start because they are easy to use, free to try, and good at everyday tasks like writing, explaining, and planning.
Getting started (step by step)
- Make sure you have an email address you can log into. (No email yet? See Module 3: Digital Presence.)
- Go to chatgpt.com or claude.ai, or download the official app from your phone’s app store.
- Create a free account with your email. Use a strong password you will remember.
- Type your first message in the box at the bottom and press Enter.
- Read the answer. If it is not what you wanted, ask again in different words — that is normal.
Use the official sites and apps only. Fake “AI” apps and links are a common scam. If an app asks for money right away or for your Social Security number, close it.
Your first conversation
Copy one of these into ChatGPT or Claude:
- “Explain what a resume is to someone who has never written one. Keep it simple.”
- “I have been away for 10 years. What are the biggest changes in smartphones I should know about?”
- “Make me a simple daily schedule that includes work, a 9 PM curfew, and time to exercise.”
