Phase Three — Renewed Ambition 101 · Module 17 of 24 · 90 minutes

Defining who you are beyond your record, your past, and this program.

What you will be able to do

  • Separate your identity from your history without denying your history.
  • Articulate your personal values and what you want to be known for.
  • Begin defining a personal purpose statement.

Why this matters

Stabilization gets you standing. Purpose is what gets you moving somewhere on your own power. Without a sense of identity beyond survival, it’s easy to drift once the structure of early reentry starts to loosen.

Reality check: Your record is a fact about your past. It is not a ceiling on your future, and it is not the most interesting or important thing about who you are — even though systems will sometimes treat it that way. This module is about deciding, on your own terms, who you’re building toward.

Activity

Purpose Statement Draft — write a one-paragraph personal purpose statement: who you are, what you value, and what you’re building toward.

Scenario

A resident introduces themselves to a new acquaintance and leads with their record before anything else. Practicing a different introduction — one built on values and direction — starts to change how the story is told, including to themselves.

What would you do first?

Reflection

  1. What’s one belief about yourself you’re ready to let go of?
  2. What’s one belief about yourself you’re ready to claim, even if it doesn’t feel fully true yet?

My action plan (pick at least one)

  • Write a first draft of your personal purpose statement.
  • Identify one value you want to visibly live out this month.
  • Share your purpose statement with one person who knows your full story.

Resources

  • Renewed Ambition Peer Support Specialist network — peer mentors with lived experience
  • The Compounding Framework — Everything Big Starts Small

Completion checklist

  • ☐ I’ve written a first draft of my purpose statement.
  • ☐ I can name three values that matter to me.
  • ☐ I’ve shared my purpose statement with someone I trust.

Milestone: A written personal purpose statement exists and has been shared with at least one person.
